Hill Country 101
A fascinating sit-down introduction to Lake Buchanan and the surrounding area. Trace the history of the Hill Country from Native American occupation to European settlement to the building of the Buchanan Dam. During the talk, you will also learn about other local attractions such as the state parks. All are welcome to this 30-45 minute presentation. Unlimited number of participants. Location: Amphitheater, Patio, or Bedrock.
Scales, Tales and Shells A "juicy" aquatic program along the shores of Lake Buchanan. Our biologist will share finds along the shore as well as delve into the animals and creatures that live above and below the surface. A cultural history is also included. All ages are welcome to this 30-45 minute excursion. This program includes a strenuous hike, standing and walking in sand, and climbing up and down a rocky path. Dependent on lake levels. Large groups will be split into groups of up to 30 participants. Starting location: Sunset Point.
Owl Prowl (seasonal)
Owl Prowls are held from September to January and not more frequently than every 45 days, per protected species regulations.
An interactive amphitheater program in which Screech Owls will be called into view for identification using a mechanical call. Participants will observe flight patterns, types of birds, and stand eyeball to eyeball with Eastern Screech Owls. Owl pellet dissection may be available for small groups. Unlimited participants of any age. 45 minutes or as long as guests have interest. Location: Amphitheater.

Discover the metamorphosis of native butterflies in this interactive program. Host plants with caterpillars, nectar plants and sometimes live adults are used to educate guests on the lifecycles of local butterfly species. A low-difficulty nature hike may be included. 45 minutes. Location: Amphitheater, Bedrock or Garden.
Walk on the Wildside Nature Hike
This popular nature hike gives guests a guided look into the incredible flora and fauna of the Texas Hill Country. After the hike, participants will be able to indentify common Hill Country trees and shrubs as well as some insects. The course also includes discussions on Texas Hill Country birds, reptiles and cultural history. While this is a gentle hike, guests must have the ability to walk level terrain. Comfortable walking shoes and binoculars are recommended. All ages welcome. 30-45 minutes. Larger groups will be split into parties of up to 30. Starting location: Amphitheater. |
