Entertainment Programs

These evening programs offer a great chance to relax after a day of exploring the nature park. Of course, all events are included in your room rate to guests at our Lake Buchanan resort.

Cowboy Poets

Listens to songs, stories and poems from our rotating cast of affable cowboy poets.

Movies Under the Stars

We show popular family-friendly movies on our patio several evenings a week. Watch the show under a bright blanket of stars. Don't forget to purchase your hot chocolate and s'mores supplies near the movie area.

Star Parties

Once a month, the Austin Astronomical Society hosts lively stargazing parties at the Eagle Eye Observatory.


Educational Programs

Don't miss your chance to meet the Traveling Naturalist, our on-hand ecology expert brimming with fun facts about the Texas Hill Country and its many inhabitants. Join us for any of the special Naturalist programs hosted weekly:

Shake, Rattle & Coil

A hands-on, user-friendly program featuring a number of non-venomous reptiles. Learn about the natural relationships between the animals that share our habitat. All ages welcome to this 45 minute program. Unlimited number of participants.

History, Mystery and Magic

A fascinating sit-down introduction to Lake Buchanan and the surrounding area. Trace the history of the Hill Country from Native American occupation to the building of the Buchanan Dam. During the talk, you will also learn about other local attractions, including the state parks. All are welcome to this 45 minute presentation. Unlimited number of participants.

Scales, Tales and Shells

A "juicy" aquatic program along the shores of Lake Buchanan. Our biologist will share finds along the shore as well as delve into the animals and creatures that live above and below the surface. All ages are welcome to this one hour excursion. This program includes a moderate hike, standing and walking in sand, and climbing up and down a rocky path. Dependent on lake levels. Large groups will be split into groups of up to 30 participants.

Owl Prowl (Seasonal)

Owl Prowls are held from September to January and not more frequent than every 45 days, per protected species regulations.

An interactive amphitheater program in which Screech Owls will be called into view for identification using a mechanical call. Participants will observe flight patterns, types of birds, and stand eyeball to eyeball with Eastern Screech Owls. Owl pellet dissection may be available for small groups. Unlimited participants. Minimum duration: 45 minutes.

Summer Flutters and Some Are Not (Seasonal)

This program is offered in spring and summer, must be booked 30 days in advance.

Discover the metamorphosis of native butterflies in this interactive program. Host plants with caterpillars, nectar plants and sometimes live adults are used to educate guests on the lifecycles of local butterfly species. A low-difficulty nature hike may be included. Minimum duration: 45 minutes.

Walk on the Wild Side Nature Hike

This popular nature hike gives guests a guided look into the incredible flora and fauna of the Texas Hill Country. After the hike, participants will be able to identify common Hill Country trees and shrubs as well as some insects. The course also includes discussions on Texas Hill Country birds, reptiles and cultural history. While this is a gentle hike, guests must have the ability to walk level terrain. Comfortable walking shoes and binoculars are recommended. All ages welcome to this one hour hike. Larger groups will be split into parties of up to 30.
